Tech Tip: How to Create a Free Email Address on Your Own Domain Using cPanel

One of the quickest ways to make a website look more professional is to stop using a free email address for business.

There’s nothing wrong with Gmail, Outlook, or Yahoo, but if you own a domain name, using an email address linked to that domain instantly creates a more professional impression.

Which sounds more trustworthy?

or

contact@abbie-shores.com

Most hosting accounts include free email addresses, yet many website owners never use them.  Today we’ll fix that.

Step 1: Log Into cPanel

Most hosting companies provide access to cPanel through your hosting dashboard.

Once logged in, look for the Email section.

Depending on your host, you may see:

Email Accounts
Email Manager
Email Setup

Click Email Accounts.

Step 2: Create a New Email Address

Click Create or Create Email Account.

You will be asked for:

Username

Examples:

info
contact
admin
support
sales
hello

Choose the part before the @ sign.

For example:

contact

would become:

contact@yourdomain.com

Step 3: Create a Password

Choose a strong password.

Don’t use:

password123
your dog’s name
your birthday

Use the password generator if available.

Save the password somewhere safe.

Step 4: Set Storage Limits

Many hosts allow you to set mailbox size limits.

For most small websites:

1GB to 5GB is usually plenty
Unlimited is fine if your host allows it

Click Create.

Your email address now exists.

Step 5: Connect It to Your Devices

Most cPanel installations provide a button called:

Connect Devices

Click it.

You’ll normally see setup instructions for:

Outlook
Apple Mail
Thunderbird
Android
iPhone

Follow the instructions provided by your host.

Alternatively, many hosts provide Webmail access directly through your browser.

Which Address Should You Create?

For artists:

contact@yourdomain.com
hello@yourdomain.com

For writers:

author@yourdomain.com
contact@yourdomain.com

For businesses:

info@yourdomain.com
support@yourdomain.com
sales@yourdomain.com

For organisations:

admin@yourdomain.com
office@yourdomain.com

You can create multiple addresses if needed.

Bonus Tip: Forward Everything to Gmail

Many people prefer Gmail’s interface.  That’s perfectly fine.

Create your domain email address, then set up an email forwarder in cPanel so messages sent to:

contact@yourdomain.com

automatically arrive in your Gmail inbox.

Visitors see the professional address.

You keep the convenience.

Best of both worlds.

Why Bother?

People often spend hundreds of pounds building a website, buying artwork, writing articles, designing logos, and creating content…then use a free email address.

A domain email costs nothing extra on most hosting plans and immediately makes your website appear more established and trustworthy.  It is one of the easiest upgrades you can make.
